Cotton Production in Pakistan:

Pakistan has always been rich in producing export-quality ‘Cotton’ and other crops due to its productive and agricultural lands. Over 65 percent of cotton is grown in Punjab because of its dry and hot conditions, and the rest is grown in Sindh, which has a more humid climate.

Cotton crop earns Pakistan’s largest export revenues. In addition, the seed of cotton for oil and meal accounts for 80 percent of the national production of oilseed.

Pakistan is the 6th largest country that is producing cotton in the whole world. It also has the third-largest cotton spinning capacity in Asia after China and India with thousands of spinning and ginning machinery units.

Use or Extraction of Cotton:

First, we need to separate the cotton seed from the cotton plant and then we can extract the fibers from the seeds. These cotton fibers that we get from cotton plants are ultimately converted into threads that are further using in making textile products like sheets, pants and shirts, and others, etc.

For clothing purposes, the seed fibers use as the thread that consists of the purest form of fabric. This pure form use in blended types of fabrics such as linen or viscose. Usually, cotton is considered only for clothing but it is also used in medical products.

Production Forecast

With expectations for a slight increase in area, but stagnant yields for the year 2022-23 production is forecast to reach 6.22 million bales, a 3.7 percent increase over 2021/22. Driven by Pakistan’s value-added cotton textile exports, cotton use is forecast to grow in this year at a modest of around 2 percent.
